1
Flex your knees and keep them bent while performing either a forward or circle crossover. This allows you to balance your weight and gives you greater flexibility.
-
2
Skate forward or begin your circle, if doing a circle crossover. Before you lift your outer (or crossover) leg, shift your weight to your inside leg to remain balanced.
-
3
Lift your outside (or crossover) leg high enough to get it over the inside foot as you begin the crossover. In a forward crossover, your inside leg is your power leg and in a circle crossover, your outside (or crossover) leg is what gives you power.
-
4
Keep an inside and outside edge on the ice with your skates as you do the crossover, depending on which direction you turn. When doing a forward crossover, this alternates depending on which skate is the outside (or crossover) leg. When doing a circle crossover, the inside leg is on the inside edge of the skate and the outside (or crossover) leg is on the outside edge of the skate as you turn.
-
5
Keep your inside skate stable as you crossover. Don’t let it slide or it will interfere as you crossover with your other skate. Like any new hockey move, the crossover takes patience and practice to get it right.
-
6
Keep your weight on the inside leg and push with the outside (or crossover) leg. This is what supplies your power going forward or in a circle.
