How to Set Up a Pole Course for Horse Jumping
The planning of a horse jumping course is essential to ensure the safety for both horse and rider. It is important that the designer places jumps in a formation that allows an easy approach and getaway. The designer should take into consideration the available area for the jumping course, the number of fences and the adjustable heights. Using poles means the course is easily adjustable to different heights, if desired, according to the abilities of the horse and rider.

Determine the dimensions of the area where you are setting up the jumping course. Draw a rectangle to scale representing this space on a piece of paper.

Draw the path that the course will follow. Add where you want the fences along the course, placing them at the correct distances from each other.
-

Write the details for each fence on the plan, such as the height of the jump, color of the poles and any necessary additional information. Measure the distances between each fence and note these on the paper.
