How to Fix Composite Hockey Sticks

A composite hockey stick is a stick made of up several different alloys and metals and is more flexible than a wooden hockey stick. This flexibility gives you superior performance and more room to develop unique techniques during play. It may happen that your composite stick breaks, usually splitting along the middle area of the shaft. You can repair a composite stick yourself, but it will take some effort and few items. These repairs will usually leave you with a stick that performs just as well as it did before the damage was done.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut a length of wood to the same width and depth as your stick and 8 inches long. Use a saw and try to get the most exact cuts possible for the best-fitting fix.

    • 2

Sand the wooden stick down a little bit with sandpaper until it is smooth but not enough to reduce it in size too much.

    • 3

Cover the stick with glue and force it into one side of the broken shaft. The stick needs to be forced in 4 inches deep. Insert the remaining length of the stick into the other half of the shaft.

    • 4

Wipe away the excess glue and let it dry for several minutes.

    • 5

Apply an epoxy resin along the seam between the two pieces of the shaft and let it dry according to the directions on the product.

    • 6

Sand the resin down until the shaft is smooth and even again. Use a power sander to minimize the work needed to get the shaft back to normal.
