How to Make Your Hockey Skates Wider

Properly fitting athletic equipment is important for any athlete across all sports. In hockey, a player must have skates that fit tight to his feet so he can move well during play. Skates come in various sizes, however, some people still have a hard time finding skates that fit well. Stretching your skates will allow for a more comfortable fit during use. Skates will normally stretch due to constant use, but you can also stretch them when you first purchase the new skates.

Put on your skates and tie them to the level of tightness that you would use during the game. Note where the skates are tight on your feet and where they need to be stretched to a wider size.

Visit a local skate shop to have them stretch your skates using a boot stretching machine. These machines will make your skates wider and longer where needed. Explain to the customer service representative exactly how wide you want the skates and where the tightness is occurring.

Spray your shoes with liquid shoe stretching product. Saturate the shoes with the liquid and manipulate them with your hands to stretch the tight area of the boot. Try the shoes on again to see if they fit better on your feet. If they are still tight, apply the spray to the shoes and try to stretch them a second time. Once they are stretched to a wider size, allow the skates to fully dry before use.
