Trampoline Enclosure Directions

While providing lots of fun and exercise, trampolines can also be dangerous. Jumping several feet in the air with reckless abandon while already being elevated off the ground by three or four feet is a recipe for disaster. This was always the downside to buying a trampoline, but manufacturers have been able to come up with some helpful enclosures which can be purchased, as well as do-it-yourself ideas for keeping those using your trampoline safe.
  1. Proper Set-up and Manpower

    • After purchasing a trampoline enclosure, it's important to first lay out all the parts and make sure you have the proper tools to put everything together. You'll also probably need to recruit one or two other people to help you, as the pieces are heavy and you'll need to be up high to install certain pieces. Wear proper shoes and prepare to spend two or three hours putting everything together.

    Poles and Mesh

    • First slide the lower poles into the upper poles and connect them with screws through the screw holes, tightening them. Repeat this procedure with all the other poles and then put foam tubes around the upper poles. Once this has been done, lay out the mesh liner with the middle tie straps facing up; run the connected poles through the straps in each section of the mesh liner. Make sure the lower part of the mesh straps are on the lower part of the poles, as this will come into play next as you add the pole caps on each end. The bolt that holds the pole caps on needs to run through an eyelet in the mesh liner and tightened securely. The entrance poles, where the mesh liner stops, has two straps sewn together at the same location. These should be tied in a knot securely above the entrance to the trampoline enclosure.

    Final Installation

    • Starting at the opposite end of the entrance pole, gather the mesh around the poles and walk everything you have just built to the trampoline, wrapping it around the trampoline itself. Bring one entrance pole to the left leg and the other entrance pole (on the other side of all the poles and mesh) to the right leg. U-bolt them to the frame of the trampoline as those pieces of hardware should be included with the trampoline enclosure materials. By lifting up the trampoline pads around the trampoline, you can tie the other loose straps from the mesh to the top rail of the trampoline itself, connecting the enclosure to the trampoline. Make sure all nuts, bolts and knots are tight before the enclosure and trampoline are used and check these regularly, as the collapse of the trampoline enclosure defeats the purpose of its safety.
