How to Track a Runner in the Mardi Gras Marathon

The Rock 'n' roll Mardi Gras Marathon is an annual event held in New Orleans. Whether you'll be lining the streets to cheer or rooting for someone from afar, the race's runner-tracking feature is an excellent way to keep tabs on your favorite runner.

Instructions

      Navigate to the Competitor Wireless's website (see Resources). The race has partnered with Competitor Wireless to offer real-time updates on runners' progress sent to your cell phone via text message.

      Click on the "Choose an Event" drop-down menu beneath the "I am a Spectator" heading, and select the Rock 'n' Roll Mardi Gras Marathon. Type the first and last name of the runner you want to follow in the box under "Participant's First & Last Name." Click on the search button. A new page with the name of your runner will open.

      Click on the green plus sign located in the left column of the page next to the athlete's name. This will move the name to the "Tracked Athletes" column on the right of the page. Click the green Continue button on the right side of the page next to your total. A new page will open.

      Enter the cell phone number, including the area code, of the phone you want the messages sent to in the box below "Phone Number." Click the green "Send Code" button to the right of the phone number box. This action will prompt Competitor Wireless to send a text message with a confirmation code to the phone number you entered. The message will come from 85007.

      Type the code from the text message in the box beneath "Confirmation Code." Click the "Continue" button under the code box. A new page will open.

      Enter your billing information, including first and last name, email address, ZIP code and gender, in the fields on the left column of the page. Enter your credit card information, including card type, card number, expiration date and CVV2 code, in the fields on the left side of the page. Scroll down the page and read the terms of service, located beneath the billing information. Click on the box next to the words "Yes, I have read and agree with the terms above." You must agree with the terms in order to continue. Click on the green "Continue" button at the bottom of the page. A new page will open.

      Review your personal information, billing information and the name of the athlete you are tracking. Click on the green "Checkout" button at the bottom of the page after you verify all the information is correct.

      Check your phone for text messages on race day. Each runner will wear a small chip on his or her shoe, and when he/she runs over a timing mat on the race course, Competitor Wireless will send a text message to your phone that includes the athlete's location on the course and time. You will receive up to ten updates on the runner's progress in the race, including start and finish times.
