Check out the inventory of longboards available at a local skateboarding store. The customer service representatives will be able to help you and offer additional advice on the types of boards that are popular.

-
3
Measure the length of the longboard. Children and shorter riders should use a longboard that is 35 to 39 inches long while adult and taller riders should use a board that is 40 to 45 inches long. Racing boards may be even longer measuring up to 50 inches long.

Choose the type of tires that you want to use on your longboard. Some riders choose to use skateboard wheels on their longboard, which offers a different feel during the ride. The longboard wheels are larger and more sturdy offering more control during the ride but will cause the ride to be a little slower.

Choose if you want a board that concave or convex edges. Concave boards have edges that curve upward for greater control while turning. Convex boards have edges that push the edges in the opposite direction which causes the rider's weight to be pushed more into the board.

6
Test out the longboard to see if it rides how you would like. Make notes of any changes that you would like to have on the board and consult the customer service representative to see if changes can be made or if you will need to purchase a different board.
