How to Make a Fish Attractant

Fishermen are always on the lookout for products to attract fish to a fishing spot and ways to keep the proverbial "big one" from slipping away. Lures are available that have fish attractant built in. And commercial fish attractants, or burley, can be purchased. But you can also make your own fish attractant at home with a few simple ingredients.

Instructions

    • 1

Place bread into a food processor or blender. Pulse bread into a fine consistency.

    • 2

Add fish oil to the bread powder. Cod liver or other fish oils are available at the market or drug store.

    • 3

Use old bait. Rather than throw away old, unused bait, make it into a paste to add to your homemade burley.

    • 4

Add meat to the mix. Fish are attracted to any meat product, so raw chicken, beef, ham and even salami can be used.

    • 5

Blend all the ingredients together into a pourable paste. Proportions of ingredients aren't important, but the consistency should be like a paste that can be poured into a carton or container.

    • 6

Pour the burley mixture into plastic milk containers and freeze. Any plastic container will work, but empty milk cartons will provide a large chunk of frozen burley.
