How to Tie a Boat Stringer to a Transom

- 1 roll quadraxial cloth
- Epoxy resin

- Metal bowl

Cut a handful of strips of quadraxial cloth. These strips should be approximately one foot long. Pour epoxy resin into a metal bowl. Add hardener to the resin according to the. Place the first strip of cloth onto the join between the boat stringer and the transom so that half the cloth is on the stringer and the other half is on the transom. Coat the strip with a layer of resin, using a paint brush.

Place another strip of quadraxial cloth on the join between the boat stringer and the transom. Coat the strip with resin once again. Apply more strips until the join between stringer and transom is covered on the top, bottom and sides. Apply more quadraxial strips over the first layer in both parallel and perpendicular directions, to increase the strength of the tie.

Coat the tie with a final coat of epoxy resin, to smooth it off and add an extra layer of protection. Allow the resin time to set. An hour should be sufficient. Wash your paintbrush thoroughly to prevent it being destroyed as the resin sets. Prepare polyurethane enamel according to the instructions. Apply a coat of polyurethane enamel to the tie to finish it off. Wash the paintbrush again after use.
