Different Sports for Children at the Preschool Level

Parents often enroll their preschoolers in sports to help develop their athletic skills. Although a preschooler may not have strong hand-eye coordination, a sport can help him develop more. Consider enrolling your child in a beginner-level sport. Summer leagues and summer camps have different sports for children at the preschool level to choose from.
  1. Dancing

    • Dancing can help teach your preschoolers rhythm and improve coordination. You can enroll your child in a ballet, jazz or hip-hop dance class. Select one or two classes for your child to try. As your child gets more involved with the class, ask him whether he would like to continue dancing in both or select a favorite.

    Ice Skating

    • Ice skating is a great individual sport for children at the preschool level. They will improve their balance as they learn how to ice skate. Don't worry, many children who take ice skating lessons do not begin to attempt jumps until the are older. Preschool students will take classes to make them comfortable on the ice before learning any more advanced skills.

    T-Ball

    • In T-Ball, your child will not have to worry about hitting a fastball or a curve. Instead, the ball is placed on a tee in front of your preschooler so she can practice hitting. In many T-Ball leagues, coaches are allowed to be on the field to help and encourage the players. This sport can help them learn the basic rules of baseball and softball.

    Gymnastics

    • In a gymnastics class, your child will learn how to tumble and flip. He will grow confidant in his ability on the mat. He can use the experience in gymnastics in either dancing or cheerleading.
