How to Install a Dampener on Head Rackets

Head is a maker of sporting goods, including racquetball rackets. When you hit a racquetball, the strings vibrate with the impact of the rubber ball, and those vibrations run down the handle and into your body. By installing a dampener on the strings of the racquet, you cut down on those vibrations, making it more comfortable to play racquetball for longer periods of time. This process takes just under 5 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the racquet in front of you so that the top of the racquet is facing away from you. Hold the dampener on the horizontal string closest to the handle, and centered side to side on the racquet to determine which strings the dampener will sit on. Locate the vertical string farthest to the left under the dampener, and make note of where it sits.

    • 2

Pinch the end of the dampener into a tight loop. Push down on the vertical string farthest to the left with your thumb, and place the looped end of the dampener between the lowest string on the racquet and the string you're pushing down. Release the string so that the loop of the dampener is centered on the joint between the bottom string and the left string and is held in place with string tension.

    • 3

Weave the dampener above the bottom string on the racket, working it over and under the vertical strings with your hands, until you cannot weave it any farther and the dampener is centered on the bottom string and along the width of the racquet.

    • 4

Pull down one side of the dampener with your fingers so the dampener is now centered on the bottom string. Pinch and shape the vibration dampener so that it forms a tight rectangular shape using your fingers.
