Define Squash Vs. Raquetball

Squash and racquetball are both games played with strung racquets, are played in singles or doubles on a court surrounded by walls, and use a rubber ball. However racquets, balls and even courts differ between the two sports.
  1. Gear and Courts

    • Squash uses racquets with a maximum length of 27 inches. The ball has a diameter of 4 centimeters and is not elastic; therefore, it dissipates more energy when bouncing and slows down during the rally. A squash court has a clear height above the court area and measures 32 feet by 21 feet. Racquetball, instead, uses smaller racquets up to 22 inches long and elastic rubber balls 2.25 inches in diameter. The court is fully enclosed and measures 40 feet by 20 feet with a height of 20 feet.

    Game Differences

    • In a squash game, there are only single or double matches played, where as in a racquetball game, a game of "cut-throat" can be played with a third person. Each game has its own rules, and to win in a squash game, a player needs to have a score of 9 or 11 points, where as in racquetball, games are played to 15 points.

    Game Similarities

    • Both squash and racquetball require players to serve the ball onto the front wall and play it so the opponent is unable to keep the ball in play. The played point is over when the ball bounces twice.
