How to Join the Roller Derby in Los Angeles

Whether for fitness, the companionship, or the basic desire to slam into something or someone, joining the roller derby in Los Angeles is possible, but takes some effort. The Los Angeles roller derby team is known as the Derby Dolls. The team was born in 2003 and now has "more than 150 skaters and volunteers, divided into five teams" (Reference 1). The Derby Dolls offer training sessions that lead to tryouts, allowing anyone the opportunity to join the team.

Instructions

      Learn how to skate, making sure you are comfortable moving very quickly and are able to dodge objects.

      Attend the Fresh Meat practice sessions held by the Derby Dolls on Sundays and Tuesdays. Those who wish to join the team are also "expected to volunteer at all bouts and join at least one league committee" (Reference 2). You must also have a valid driver's license and proof of current health insurance.
