How to Heat-Fit Roller Hockey Skates

Using an everyday oven you can heat-fit a pair of roller hockey skates in under an hour. This allows the skate to mold to the shape of your foot, making them more comfortable when you are skating in the rink. While many sporting goods stores have a special skate baking machine, an oven also works.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your oven and pre-heat it to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. When the oven reaches the desired temperature, turn it off.

    • 2

Take the wheels off of the boot of the skate using a screwdriver. The wheels are made of plastic and can melt or become deformed if placed in the oven. Additionally, ensure that the laces are loose so that you can easily insert your foot when heating is complete.

    • 3

Place the skate boots in the oven on a baking sheet and allow them to sit in the oven for about ten minutes. Be sure to check on them during this time to ensure that they are not getting too hot and melting.

    • 4

Remove the skates from the oven and place them on your feet. Make sure that they are not too hot; they should not be painful when laced tightly.

    • 5

Keep the skate boots on for roughly fifteen minutes, ensuring your feet are kept flat on the ground.

    • 6

Remove the skates and let them cool overnight to retain their new shape.

    • 7

Verify that the skates fit properly and re-attach the wheels to the boots.
