Instructions

    • 1

Get proper safety gear first. Knee pads, elbow pads and a helmet are mandatory. If you don't have hockey gloves, buy a pair of wrist guards. You may also want to consider shin guards, a mouth guard, a cup (for men), padded pants and hockey shoulder pads. Take your safety seriously and use quality gear.

    • 2

Have goalie pads available for whoever plays the cage. This includes a cage mask, a chest protector, leg pads, and a goalie glove and stick.

    • 3

Use a quality stick - aluminum sticks are usually the best, but there are also many excellent wood sticks available. Your stick should reach from the ground to just below your chin when you are wearing your skates.

    • 4

Tape your stick handle and blade - this provides a better grip for both your hands and the puck.

    • 5

Use good in-line skates. New wheels help you skate faster.

    • 6

Play with a plastic puck on smooth surfaces, or a ball on rougher pavement.
