How to Start a Roller Hockey Team

Getting together a roller hockey team is not hard to do, and having a team will bring your playing experience to a higher level.

Instructions

    • 1

Get together with all of your friends who play roller hockey and discuss starting a team. It's best to have at least six people. If you need more players, post signs at your local in-line skate shop or find some people with good athletic abilities and start training them. You will need a bare minimum of five players (four field players and a goalie) to play, but it's good to have a few extras.

    • 2

Keep a list of names and phone numbers for the team. Choose a captain - he or she will be charge of keeping everyone informed about practices and game schedules.

    • 3

Make sure all players have their own gear. (See the related eHow "How to Gear Up for Roller Hockey.")

    • 4

Organize practices and get used to playing with each other. Play as much as you can with your team.

    • 5

Teach each other what you know. Take time to learn skills and drills. These are not as much fun as playing, but they pay off in the long run.

    • 6

Find some other teams in your area and organize some practice games. Try not to take the competition too seriously.

    • 7

Go out for pizza after your practice games and plan your next practice or game.

    • 8

Find out about local tournaments and leagues your team could enter.

    • 9

Agree on a name and uniforms for your team. Uniforms can be as simple as the same color t-shirt, or you can purchase custom jerseys.

    • 10

Have fun, above all. Don't let competition ruin your playing experience.
