1
Determine if you have the body type for lightweight rowing. Men must weight between 155 and 160 pounds to qualify. Women must weigh less than 130 pounds, with no minimum weight required.
-
2
Verify the required weigh ins. The International Federation of Rowing Association has guidelines for weight that must be met six months before a competition as well as a month before a competition. To be eligible to compete in an IFRA competition, you'll want to make sure weights are officially recorded to maintain eligibility.
-
3
Perfect your rowing technique. Hire a coach to teach you advanced rowing techniques and to help you perform to the best of your ability. A coach is also critical to prepare for competitions.
-
4
Work on speed and power through strength training exercises. Maintain a proper diet while exercising to ensure you have enough fuel to row. Eating a diet packed with nutrition will help your body perform its best.
