How to Hold a Rugby Ball

Holding a rugby ball correctly is extremely easy. It's just like holding a football. However, you must protect the rugby ball a little more securely, and you should use both hands. The following steps will tell you how to do this.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the rugby ball by the middle part with your dominant hand. Put the ball under your arm so it is held securely by your dominant arm and the side of your body.

    • 2

Squeeze your arm down tightly on the ball. You should be squeezing the middle part of the ball. If you are not applying pressure to this part of the ball, it will simply pop out when too much pressure is applied.

    • 3

Place your other hand over the tip of the ball closest to the front of your body. The ball is locked into place by your side and both arms and will be very difficult to dislodge.

    • 4

Protect the ball from defenders trying to knock it from your arms. Carrying the ball in this manner also makes you keep a low center of gravity and protects your core from a direct hit.

    • 5

Hold the ball with one hand at each end. This is an additional way to hold the rugby ball. Pull the ball into your stomach and keep both hands positioned. This makes it harder for the ball to be knocked lose from behind or the sides.
