How to Size Cross-Country Skis

If you enjoy the outdoors, don't mind cold weather and like the thrill of taking risks, skiing may be for you. However, you may not like the idea of skiing downhill. In this case, take up cross country skiing. Before you start, you will need appropriate-sized skis.

      Decide which type of skis you'd like to use for cross country skiing. You can choose among traditional skis, skating skis and mid-length classical skis. The skis you choose is a personal preference. Check out the different kinds and talk with a professional ski instructor before deciding.

      If you're using traditional skis, multiply your height in inches by 2.6 and add 25 to the total. The answer is approximately how long your skis should be in centimeters.

      Multiply your height in inches by 2.6 and add 15 if you're using skating skis.

      Place yourself in a weight class if you're using mid-length classical skis. These skis come in three sizes. If you're a lightweight, choose the shortest size. If you're a heavyweight, choose the longest. If you're mid-weight, choose the middle size. If you're unsure of your weight class, a professional ski instructor can assist you.
