How to Get Up From Skiing Without Poles

Getting up after falling over while skiing is much easier when you are on a hill because gravity will help prop you up. Falling back down, however, is much more probable because you need to fight that same gravity as you find your stance. Recovering after falling down in thick snow is much more difficult, because you might be unable to maneuver your skis when they are trapped under a thick blanket of snow. The challenge increases when you don't have poles.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn your body and skis so they are facing alongside the hill. Turn your skis and body so that they are sideways if you are on a flat surface.

    • 2

Push against the ground with your arms and hands. Move the ski that is closest to your hands up as you gain leverage.

    • 3

Put weight on the ski that is closest to your hands and then move your other ski towards that ski. Your knees should now be bent.

    • 4

Push hard against the snow with your hand to prop your body up one final time. Move your skis into a wider stance so that you are balanced.

    • 5

Regain your energy before continuing or turn your skis and body immediately to continue in your previous direction of travel.
