It’s fair to say that Volkl knows a thing or two about making flat tailed, all metal, directional chargers. Their Kendo and Mantra series are testament to this. The Kendo 88 quickly became a classic all-mountain ski and now it’s got a bigger brother in this, the Kendo 92.
Precision and power is at the heart of the Kendo 92. Similar to the equally damp and powerful Katana 108, the Kendo 92 features a poplar and beech core and metal layup to help provide this power. Beech and poplar have been laminated together to run the length of the ski, while extra beech stringers are used underfoot to provide power and durability where it’s needed most.
Sitting on top of that wooden core is what Volkl calls their “Titanal Frame”, a combination of two contoured 0.7 mm and 0.3 mm thick metal sheets that run for pretty much the full length of the ski.

Volkl has sandwiched this frame together to cover highly stressed areas, just where you’re going to want the power and energy transmission of metal. The sections of the ski not covered by the Titanal Frame have been boosted through the use of carbon – particularly in the tips and tails. Topping off the Titanal Frame is a dampening material that runs the length of the skis.
This beefy construction is topped off by full sidewalls running the entire length of the ski for flawless edge grip when you do decide to lay these over and flex their power.
Volkl Kendo 92 Shaping
On the shaping front, both tip and tail Rocker is combined with a touch of camber underfoot to give the Kendo 92 a sense of ease in fresh snow.
While these planks are happy in the soft stuff, their preferred terrain does of course remain the piste – where their stiffness, precision and responsiveness give you bucket loads of power and feedback through each turn. We can’t really stress enough what a joy these skis are on fresh groomers.

Who Is The Volkl Kendo 92 For?
If you’re after a pair of all mountain skis with a touch of a hard snow bias, then the Kendo 92 could be for you.
The tried and tested Titanal Frame creates a ski that’ll be an absolute joy for strong intermediate to expert skiers on all but the deepest snow conditions. Pair these with the STH2 bindings, and you’ll have a setup that’ll be a blast around the entire mountain.
