Removing Snowboard Traction Studs

Traction studs, commonly known as stomp pads, are glued onto snowboards to provide traction, as the name suggests. These pads are made of foam or rubber and allow the snowboarder to put his back leg on them when it is not in the binding. These pads may sometimes be replaced, and removing them is a simple process.
  1. Preparation

    • Before the traction studs are removed, it is necessary to place the snowboard on a stable surface like a table. It is a good idea to put a blanket or something soft between the board and the surface to avoid damaging the latter.

    Removing the Traction Studs

    • The traction studs can usually be ripped off with just one's hands. Otherwise, they can be pried off the board using a flat instrument, such as a flat-head screwdriver.

    More Difficult Cases

    • If the hold of the glue is too strong to be pulled or pried off, an application of heat is necessary. This can be achieved using a heat gun or a blow dryer, gradually heating up with traction studs. After this is done, they will be easier to rip off.

    Cleaning up

    • After the traction studs are removed, one should scrape off the old glue that held them in place. The area should then be washed using a mixture of water and rubbing and alcohol to keep it from being sticky.
