Buffering Scratches Out of a Snowboard

Snowboards are built to take on the rigors of season after season on the slopes, but cosmetic damage is inevitable. If your board has collected its fair share of scratches, scuffs and scrapes over the years, don't just run out and pick up a replacement. Surface scratches can be buffed out relatively easily using household products and a bit of general purpose rubbing compound. With some elbow grease, your board will look good as new.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap a sheet of fine sandpaper around the sanding block. Smooth any burrs or rough spots around the outside of your board by grasping the block and using rapid back and forth passes.

    • 2

Mix warm water and several drops of mild soap in a small bowl. Saturate a soft rag with the solution and scrub the entire board clean of any caked-on salt or dirt. Dry the board with a microfiber cloth.

    • 3

Dip your buffer pad into the rubbing compound, ensuring that you scoop up a liberal amount. Spread the compound evenly over the scratches on your board.

    • 4

Buff the scratched areas using a rapid circular motion and firm downward pressure. As the compound begins to thin, apply more to your buffer pad and continue. Check your progress by wiping away the compound with a damp rag.

    • 5

Wipe off all of the compound with a damp rag once you achieve the desired results.

    • 6

Finish your buff job by adding a glossy polish to the board. Rub the entire board down with a polishing cloth, using the same motion you did while buffing.
