Front Flip on the Snowboard Trails

Snowboard tricks may be appealing to many avid snowboarders. After conquering basic surface and aerial tricks such as wheelies and ollies, you may be up for something more challenging. To learn front flips, start small; use medium speed and a small jump. The trick requires that you propel yourself in the air, rotate your body 360 degrees and land with your board facing straight ahead. With plenty of practice you'll soon get the hang of it.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your protective gear. Wear wrist and joint guards and put on a helmet.

    • 2

Find a trail that's steep enough to provide the speed you will need to make the 360 jump. The higher the speed, the faster the flip will be. Avoid very steep trails; even though a flip requires speed, it's easier to control the jump when going slower and you minimize the risk of getting injured. Progress to steeper trails, as you get better.

    • 3

Use a jump that is approximately 2 feet high to make a small flip. Progress to higher ramps as you get better and more confident.

    • 4

Line your snowboard up with the jump and descent down the trail.

    • 5

Push off on your front foot as the nose of your board is about to hit the edge of the jump. Bring your weight forward and move your front shoulder toward your front knee, to help propel you in the air.

    • 6

Bend your knees while airborne and rotating. Hold onto the back of your knees with your hands.

    • 7

Release your knees right before landing. Land with your knees bent and remaining flexible, and with your snowboard facing straight ahead.
