How to Make a Pole Mount for GoPro Snowboarding

GoPro cameras are small digital-video recorders designed for sport use. The GoPro camera mounts into a water- and shock-resistant clear-plastic case that enables the user to take it into extreme conditions like those in snowboarding. In order to get good angles or a point-of-view shot, mount the GoPro to an old ski-pole, preferably a pole that telescopes to give a higher range of angle and shots. A mount is quick to make, and can be done on-the-cheap.

Things You'll Need

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the pole upside down so the basket is facing up. Wrap the pole in duct tape, going from the basket up approximately 5 or 6 inches. Wrap several layers of duct tape around the pole.

    • 2

Place two zip-ties over the duct tape area on the pole base. Do not tighten them all the way, leave them with approximately 1/2-inch of slack around the pole.

    • 3

Thread another zip-tie through the two on the pole, but make it perpendicular to them. The zip-tie is now parallel to the pole and being held to the pole by the other two. Tighten the two around the pole as tight as possible, locking the perpendicular zip tie in place.

    • 4

Thread the GoPro helmet strap through the perpendicular zip-tie and tighten it snug against the pole using the strap's slider buckle. Tighten the perpendicular zip-tie.

    • 5

Attach the GoPro to the strap's camera mount. Adjust the angle of the camera using the strap mount and the telescoping pole.
