1
Begin preparation for playing women's college soccer by joining the high school soccer team. Build your resume and improve your soccer skills to enhance the possibility of being recruited or accepted to the college of your choice. Make a list of possible schools that meet your academic requirements as well as your soccer team needs.
-
2
Join a private soccer team in addition to the high school team to increase exposure to coaches. Enter the showcase tournaments available with teams from around the country. Call attention to yourself by writing a letter to the coaches or recruiters who are expected to attend tournaments. Give the coaches an opportunity to evaluate your playing. Express an interest in their college and ask for their game schedule.
-
3
Send a video of your high school highlights to the prospective coaches of the teams you are considering. Ask your current soccer coach to include a letter of recommendation. Enclose information on grade average, team name, position played and individual statistics. Send an email with your athletic resume to establish a rapport with the coach.
-
4
Check the team's ratings with the NCAA to determine if the team is of your level. The NCAA is the athletic governing organization and can give you information about the various college teams. The NCAA can also guide you with requirements for eligibility. Ask your high school coach for the NCAA's brochure.
-
5
In your senior year, visit the colleges with the soccer teams that showed interest in you. Select other colleges that have soccer teams of interest to you. Visit these. See how you like the players and the coach. Discuss financial aid with the financial adviser during your visit if financial aid is important to you.
-
6
Apply for early decision to your choice school. Inform the soccer coach that you are doing so and inform her that her school is your first choice. Send in your deposit and acceptance notice immediately. If rejected, send out other applications, but in each case notify the soccer coach that you are applying to her school. Upon receipt of your acceptances, decide which college you want to attend. Be prepared to arrive at the college during the summer before school officially opens, since soccer practice usually begins then.
