Fun Soccer Games for Little Kids

The Name Game
-
The Footy 4 Kids website explains that the name game is a fun way for young teammates to learn names at the beginning of a season. Have the players stand in a circle and take turns passing the ball to each other. Before passing the ball, the player must call out who he is passing to. The person who is called gets the ball and then calls a different player. This game helps young players build a team and become comfortable with the ball.
Egg Hunt
-
Have your young soccer players line up at one end of the field,, and spread soccer balls across the field. After the balls are spread out, have the players get the soccer ball "eggs" into the goal, or the "basket", as quickly as possible, explains the Footy 4 Kids website. The object of the game is to work as a team to collect all of the "eggs." Be sure there are more balls than players so no one feels left out.
Freeze Tag
-
Set up a playing area and get your players started dribbling their balls in the correct area. After everyone has started choose a player to be "it" and take her ball away. The player who is "it" tries to touch the other players balls. If she succeeds, the player must stop and freeze, explains Footy 4 Kids. Play until everyone is frozen, or for a time limit and see who freezes the most players during his turn as "it."
Red Light Green Light
-
Most young children are familiar with red light green light states the Footy 4 Kids website. Choose one player to be the light, and have him stand on one end of the playing field. Have the other young players line up with their balls on the opposite end of the field. The "light" calls out "green light" and the players dribble their balls toward him. When he calls out "red light" they must stop and wait for green light to be called again. If a player is caught still moving after red light is called, she must take five steps backward. The winner is the player who reaches the "light" first. The Footy 4 Kids website suggests letting very young children roll their ball with their hands for a few rounds before dribbling with their feet.
