Technical Goalkeeper Training

Each player on a soccer team has a specific task aimed at helping the team win. Strikers and midfielders do the scoring, defenders chase opposing players away from the net and goalkeepers defend the net. Technical goalkeeper training is essential to developing proper form and technique.
  1. Function

    • Technical goalkeeper training is designed to help the player make the right decisions and be able to execute those decisions when the time comes. That includes being in position at all times, maximizing vertical leap and reaction time, and kicking the ball to all corners of the field.

    Effects

    • The more time a goalkeeper spends on his technique, the better prepared he will be when faced with actual game situations. By working on being in the proper position, for example, a player will be in a better position for scoring opportunities and direct kicks, increasing his chances of keeping them out of the goal.

    Potential

    • By working on several different technical aspects at once, a goalkeeper has the potential to go from good to great. Technical sessions with certified coaches can make a goalkeeper better in all areas of his game. Even the top soccer teams in the world employ goalkeeper coaches to help players work on their form.
