How to Play Right Back in Football
Instructions
-
-
1
Line up on the right side of the field between the sweeper---right-center back---and the right midfielder---right-central midfielder.
-
2
Stay alert and watch the play developing on the right flank of the field. The right back's job is to defend the right side of the field.
-
3
Move up and down the right flank of the field. If the ball is in the offensive zone, hover close to midfield and watch for a break-out from the opposing team. If the ball is on the left side of the defensive zone, cover the middle-right of the field and defend the opposing teams open midfielders, wingers, or strikers.
-
4
Challenge opposing players who have the ball and are charging down the right flank of the field. The opposing side's offensive players---midfielders, wingers, and strikers---may try to gain ground on the right side and kick the ball into the middle for a header or a quick shot on goal. Stay in front of your opponent and try to take the ball away from the opponent.
-
5
Pass the ball to an open midfielder, winger, or striker on your team by kicking it to them. If crowded by opposing players, pass the ball backwards to an open defenseman or kick the ball out-of-bounds.
