Soccer Ideas for Halloween

You can take the kid out of the soccer game, but, for some, you can't take the soccer game out of the kid. Halloween is the one day out of the year that your child is able to incorporate his soccer uniform into his wardrobe. According to Lisa McGlone from the Family and Consumer Sciences program and Michigan State University, encouraging children to dress up in creative outfits expands their imagination and develops creativity. From wearing a soccer ball hat to blood-stained cleats, help spur on the creativity in your soccer enthusiast this Halloween.
  1. Head Decor

    • A soccer ball can double as a Halloween hat.

Adding color to the head and face takes a Halloween costume from average to one that stands out in the crowd. Cut an equal-sided hexagon out of paper. Use the template to spray adjoining hexagons in contrasting colors over your child's hair with hair spray paint. Continue the hexagons over your child's face using the same template and face paints. If you would rather, cut one-third of an old soccer ball away with an razor blade to create a close-fitting hat.

    Ghoul It Up

    • Even the undead enjoy playing a game of soccer.

Halloween night can turn energetic soccer players into zombies and vampires. Turn your soccer player into a grotesque, soccer-playing monster. Gray face paint under her eyes and white face paint over the rest of her face creating a frightening face. Add a dribble of red paint near the mouth for a vampire's sneer. Halloween merchandise is available to add the illusion of a knife in your child's back, guts spilling out of her abdomen or a second head growing out of her shoulder. Homemade blood can be spilled over an old soccer T-shirt. According to Jackie Jeffery of the University of Northern Colorado, make artificial blood by mixing one cup of corn syrup, one tablespoon of water, two tablespoons of red food coloring and one tablespoon of yellow food coloring. Stir the ingredients together and splatter over an old soccer uniform. For an especially ghoulish touch, replace the soccer ball in a handheld soccer leash with an artificial head to kick around.

    Favorite Player

    • Dress up as a favorite star.

Many young athletes dream of playing the game professionally one day. Dress your young athlete like his favorite professional soccer player. Purchase a T-shirt the same color worn by your child's soccer idol. The professional player's last name and team number can be ironed onto the back of the shirt. Using fabric paint, your child can add any emblems, stripes or details that appear on the professional player's T-shirt. Add soccer shorts and socks to complete the look of a young, professional soccer player.

    School Mascot

    • Show school spirit by dressing your child as the school mascot.

Your child can spread a little school spirit while trick-or-treating through the school's town. Dress your child as her soccer team's school mascot. For most mascots, you'll need to make or purchase only head gear; the rest of the costume can be clothing in school colors or a soccer uniform. Purchase or make a mask or hat to match your child's school mascot. Add face paint to complete the look of the mascot's head. Compete the outfit with a sweatshirt and sweatpants in a complimentary color or simply use your child's soccer uniform. A soccer ball on a leash is a nice finishing touch for the soccer playing mascot.
