How to Make a Softball Lineup Card for Men

You must take several considerations into account when making a batting lineup for a softball team. First and foremost is what type of league it is.There are differences in lineup-making for fast-pitch and slow-pitch softball. Fast-pitch softball is played much like baseball, and has similar strategies employed, such as steals, bunting and hit and runs. Slow-pitch softball has more of a "swing-from-your-heels" type of play, where everyone tries for a home run with every at-bat. Take all of these factorsinto account when making out a softball lineup card.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine who your best hitters are, either as far as contact or power is concerned. List your best all-around hitter third in the lineup, your second-best hitter fourth and your third-best hitter in the fifth spot.

    • 2

Determine your best overall contact hitter and list him as your leadoff hitter. Decide who is your second-best contact hitter or, if you are playing fast-pitch softball, someone who handles the bat well, has enough speed to keep from hitting into a double play and can lay down an occasional bunt when the situation calls for it. Bat that person in the second spot.

    • 3

Fill out the remainder of your lineup according to hitting ability. List your weakest hitters at the bottom of the lineup which, depending on the rules, will have either nine or 10 spots to fill.

    • 4

Save a decent contact hitter who has some speed as the last batter in the lineup; sometimes, that batter will lead off an inning and get on base ahead of the better hitters at the top of the lineup, so you want someone who comports himself well on the base paths.
