How to Disassemble the High Power HP-35

The Browning High Power HP-35 automatic pistol is known the world over for its accuracy and reliability. Keeping a High Power HP-35 automatic pistol in top working condition requires a good cleaning each time the gun is fired. To clean the pistol well, you must know how to disassemble it. Disassembling an HP-35 involves breaking the gun down to its six primary components: slide, slide stop, barrel, coil spring, coil spring guide, frame and magazine. With just your hands and a few minutes you can disassemble your High Power HP-35 automatic pistol.

      Grasp the pistol in your right hand and locate the magazine release catch on the left side of the gun. The magazine release catch is the round button just rearward of the trigger. Use your right thumb to push the magazine release catch, releasing the magazine. Pull the magazine from the pistol with your left hand.

      Locate the grooved portion of the slide just below the rear sight at the top rear of the pistol. Locate the safety and its corresponding notch on the left side of the pistol, just above the wooden grip.

      Grasp the grooved portion of the slide with the thumb and forefinger of your left hand and pull it rearward as far as possible. Hold the slide in the full rearward position and push upward on the safety with the thumb of your right hand until the hooked portion of the safety engages the recess in the slide, holding the slide open.

      Look into the now open chamber to make sure there is no cartridge in the chamber or barrel.

      Locate the round end of the slide stop pin on the right side of the pistol, just above the trigger. Push on the end of the slide stop pin with the fingers of your left hand until it is flush with the slide. The slide stop should now be standing proud of the slide on the left side of the pistol.

      Pull the slide stop straight out to remove it from the pistol. Push the safety to the full downward position to release the slide from the frame. Push the slide forward with your left hand to push it free of the frame.

      Grasp the slide in one hand and invert it. Locate the coil spring and guide inside the slide.

      With your free hand, push the coil spring and guide forward about one inch, then lift upward to remove them from the slide. The pistol is now disassembled.
