How to Bump Fire a 10/22

The Ruger 10/22 is a best-selling American-made rifle chambered for the .22 LR. It is magazine fed and semi-automatic, which means that the trigger must be pulled once for every shot that is fired. Bump-firing is a way to use the recoil of a firearm to modify this process; instead of the trigger finger pressing against the trigger to fire the gun, the moving trigger presses against the stationary finger. Bump-firing a 10/22 is more difficult than other guns because of the weapon's low power and lack of recoil.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the 10/22 to your shoulder or at waist level. It is more difficult to bump-fire the rifle from your shoulder than from your waist, but the former provides more barrel control.

    • 2

Pull the trigger. Keep your finger firmly retracted in its firing position. This process requires a great deal of practice.

    • 3

Allow the recoil to slide the rifle backward, toward your body and off your trigger finger.

    • 4

Pull the foregrip of the rifle away from your body and toward your stationary trigger finger. Use your other hand to accomplish this move. The trigger typically resets and is ready to fire again.

    • 5

Continue firing until the magazine is out of bullets.
