How to Make Locker Hooking Baskets

Gym clothes and shoes need adequate ventilation to evaporate sweat and prevent mildew and odors from accumulating in them. A metal, hanging basket keeps gym equipment elevated above school books and other belongings and allows for more airflow than is possible in backpacks and gym bags. You can create a hanging basket for your locker with a few inexpensive supplies available at hardware and garden stores.

Things You'll Need

  • Wire crate or basket
  • 9 S-hooks

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase a basket large enough to contain your gym clothes, but small enough to fit inside your locker. Bike baskets and office supply storage crates are ideal for this project.

    • 2

Slip an S-hook through each of the four corners of the basket’s rim. Close the bottom end of the S-hook around the rim, using pliers.

    • 3

Slip a length of chain through the open side of each S-hook. Close the other end of the S-hook, using pliers.

    • 4

Slip an S-hook through all four open ends of chain. Close the bottom end of the S-hook around the chains to make a hanger. You can now hang the basket from the top S-hook to suspend it from your locker’s built-in hook.

Slip S-hooks through the wire on the bottom of the basket to make hooks for hanging jackets or gym bags, if desired. Close the top end of the S-hooks around the wire to secure them in place. Because the basket will utilize the built-in locker hooks, you may appreciate these additional hooks.
