How to Create Your Own Goalkeeper Clothing

In any sport, each player's position is important; the goalkeeper, or goalie, must have excellent hand-eye coordination and lightning-quick reflexes to prevent the opposing team from scoring. Many sports involve a goalkeeper, including ice and field hockey, team handball and soccer. If you play as a goalie for one of these sports casually or on an amateur team, you can create your own custom goalkeeper outfit so you can look the part and help teammates identify your role as part of the team.

Instructions

    • 1

Use stencils to make the letters and numbers for your goalie outfit on tracing paper. You can put your last name or nickname on the back of your jersey, along with your number. Cut on the outlines of the letters and numbers.

    • 2

Trace the outlines of the letters and numbers on a piece of felt; this will form the bottom layer of the letters and numbers. You can choose a neutral color like black or white, or use one of the team's colors. Trace the outlines on a piece of chenille or other textured fabric to form the top layer. Sew the top and bottom layers of your numbers and letters together.

    • 3

Arrange the letters on the back of your goalie jersey and pin them in place with straight pins. Position the jersey on your sewing machine and sew the numbers and letters to the jersey.

    • 4

Create a unique patch to place on the sleeve or front of your uniform using the felt and chenille. Use stencils to trace the outline on tracing paper and cut out the outlines, using the same method you used to create the letters and numbers. The patch can be your team's logo or emblem.

Finish your professional-looking goalie outfit by adding a pair of athletic shorts or pants to your ensemble, along with a pair of knee-high socks. Depending on which sport you play, your outfit will vary slightly. Wear a pair of athletic gloves if required for the sport you play.
