How to Create a Water Refill Station

For many people, summertime means team sports, running, hiking and other outdoor pastimes. While these activities are great for a healthy lifestyle, it's important to practice them safely. Proper hydration is crucial during physical activities. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, untreated severe dehydration can result in seizures, brain damage and death. Help prevent dehydration and support your local athletes by setting up a water refill station for your next practice or event.

  • Sturdy table
  • Large water cooler with spout (10 gallons or more)
  • Dolly or wheeled cart

Instructions

    • 1

Set up the table, ensuring that it is properly locked and strong enough to bear the weight of a filled water cooler. If your station will be along the route for a race, make a large sign with the posterboard and markers that says "Water station" in large letters. Tape the sign to the front of your table and position the table for maximum visibility.

Ensure that your cooler is clean and free of dirt or debris. Place the cooler on the dolly and fill it to the brim with ice. Wheel the cooler over to a hose or other water source and fill it with water.

    • 3

Wheel the cooler back to the table and carefully lift it up onto the surface. You might need another person to help you lift it safely. Set out extra cups for those who don't have a water bottle. Refill the cooler with ice and water as necessary.
