Squash Tips

Squash is a sport requiring players to practice endurance, focus, proper form and proper technique for success, and squash tips center around these areas. Use this knowledge to improve your squash game as well as your physical fitness: two skills that feed into each other in terms of positive impact.
  1. Endurance

    • Above all else, practice your endurance. If you tire out during a game of squash, you will have a hard time winning. Play squash to increase your stamina, but also run, swim or go to the gym outside the squash court to push your endurance even further.

    Focus

    • Pay attention to what your opponent is doing, but pay especial attention to where the ball is. The ball will be moving fast, so the easiest way to keep an eye on it is to use your peripheral vision, seeing it out the corner of your eye instead of constantly twitching your head and neck to watch it head-on.

    Form

    • Hold your racquet the right way by grabbing the middle of the grip at an angle that resembles a handshake. Once you master this grip, try holding the grip high for speed shots and low for power shots. The position of the hand on the racquet gives you a surprising amount of leverage in what kind of shot you want to make.

    Technique

    • The key way to improve your squash technique is to concentrate on your serve and returning your opponent's serve, since the serve sets the tone for the point. The best serves hit near the walls to limit your opponent's options in terms of movement. Read where your opponent's serve is going and get in position to hit it back as quickly as possible.
