1
Place the squash racquet in your dominant hand. For most people this is the hand they write with, however, as sometimes found in baseball, people feel more comfortable swinging with their opposite hand. Whatever feels most comfortable to you is the hand you should use.
-
2
Extend your index finger up along the tape of the squash racquet. Rather than just grasping the racquet and making something analogous to a fist, you want to extend that index finger so that the racquet has stability from moving side to side when you strike the ball.
-
3
Make sure that your palm is flush with the handle of the racquet. This doesn't mean the bottom of the racquet, but the handle itself. If you over pronate your wrist (over extend) so that your hand looks like a closed position, you will lose stability on the bottom of the racquet.

4
Check to make sure that your thumb and index finger are forming a "v." If the "v" is formed, then your grip is set and you are ready to play.
