Swimming Pool Training Classes in California

Learning to swim is one of the many milestones in a young child's life, and good swimming pool training can help ease the transition into water. California is home to hundreds of licensed pool training schools that offer classes for all ages, including adults who never learned to swim. The best way to find good swimming classes is often through word of mouth, but the Internet is also a great resource.

  1. La Petite Baleen

    • With three branches in Half Moon Bay, San Francisco and San Bruno, La Petite Baleen is one of California's most established swimming schools. Former public school teachers John and Irene Kolbisen founded La Petite Baleen in 1979 with the hope of combining their dual loves of teaching and swimming. Le Petite Baleen offers classes seven days a week for all ages (2 months to adult). Teachers at La Petite Baleen work under the mantra "Pace, Pattern, Compassion and Fun." Classes are generally 30 minutes, with a student to teacher ratio of 4 to 1 for ages 3 and up. Students ages 3 and under attend class accompanied by a parent or guardian with a student to teacher ratio of 6 to 1. Special needs classes are also available at every La Petite Baleen branch.

    Aqua Pro Swim Lessons

    • Based in Culver City of Greater Los Angeles, Aqua Pro offers private and group swimming lessons for children beginning at the age of 3. Classes are divided into sessions that are one or two weeks long. Students choose their own schedules, based on their availability, from a variety of set times throughout the day. Experienced swim instructors help students learn how to swim safely in a supportive, fun environment.
