Selecting a Tennis Racquet
-
1
Take a tennis lesson and ask a professional to evaluate your mechanics and recommend the type of racquet that will enhance your game. Some racquets are designed to develop power, others assist with control, and some can help with both.
-
2
Ask the tennis professional to measure your grip size. Then research a few racquets in the style recommended and decide on a price range.
-
3
Ask your tennis instructor to arrange a racquet demo or go to a store that offers demo racquets. Many tennis pro shops or stores will allow you to borrow a racquet for a fee and some clubs will provide this service for free.
-
4
Play with the demo racquets. Pay special attention to the weight of the racket in your hand, the smoothness of your swing, the head size, and the feel of the hit.
-
5
Decide on a racquet and find out what strings are on it and their tension. If your instructor sells racquets, ask for a price. Shop at one or two other places.
