Take your racket to the local pro shop or sporting goods store and ask them to replace the strings. This can give a racket new life with taught strings that control and propel the ball. Depending on the string you choose, you should expect to pay from $15 to $45 to restring your racket.

Replace the grommets. The grommets are the plastic inserts that go into the frame head that hold the strings in place. They prevent the strings from rubbing against the frame and wearing the frame down. Cracked and broken grommets not only can lead to frame damage but can lead to premature string wear.
Between stringing, when there is no string on the racket, pull the plastic grommets off and insert the new grommet strip. Make sure to align the bottom with the first hole near the neck of the racket and pull them up, inserting each as you ascend and work your way around the frame.

Replace the grip. Grips thin out and lose their cushion over time. You can buy a synthetic replacement grip for a about $15 that has a plastic adhesive on the back. Remove the old by pulling the tape near the neck off and unwind the grip. Use Goo-Off to remove any excess sticky tape off. When the handle is clean, start at the butt of the racket with the tapered end of the new grip and line it up along the butt. Pull the adhesive off as you go, wrapping the grip so that it overlaps about 1/8 inch in a spiral up to the racket neck. Cut the excess grip away and use the tape in that came with the replacement grip to secure it in place.
