What Equipment Do I Need for a Triathlon?
-
Swimsuit
-
The first leg of the triathlon is the swim and even if the rules allowed for wearing something other than traditional swim gear, the participant would get both the most comfort and best performance out of a properly fitted swimsuit or wetsuit.
Goggles
-
The swim portion of the triathlon can get frantic with thrashing bodies and it often takes place in ocean or lake water. To be able to properly navigate the waters, a good pair of goggles are a necessity.
Bicycle
-
Though participants can generally ride any bicycle of their choosing during the cycling portion of a triathlon, the fastest and smoothest ride will come from a lightweight road bike that has been professionally fitted to the participant.
Helmet
-
Participants of a triathlon don't want a lot of extra gear that will weigh them down during any portion of the race, but when riding along a crowed concrete raceway with dozens of other riders a helmet is a minimum safety requirement.
Running Shoes
-
Comfortable and properly fitted running shoes will make the final leg of the triathlon a much easier and more pleasant experience than would any other type of footwear.
