Volleyball Wall Drills

Wall Hitting
-
You can pick a spot on a wall, take the ball and serve it to that spot. This gets your armswing motion correct by forcing you to aim for a specific spot. To make this drill more challenging, alter the spot where you aim the ball to be higher, farther away or farther to the side. As you get better, you can decrease the size of the target to make your hitting more accurate.
Wall Blocks
-
To practice this technique, stand as close as you can to a wall without touching it. Jump up as high as you can with solid block floor, touch the wall with your fingertips at your peak and come down and land in proper blocking form. Make sure your arms never touch the wall -- only your fingertips are to touch it. This trains players to have proper blocking form without brushing the net during a game.
Setting Practice
-
Proper setting can be achieved by trying this simple exercise. Squat low near a wall, set the ball on the wall, catch it above your head and repeat. Make sure you have the proper footwork for squatting. This drill helps you get proper setting form down through continuous repetition.
Directional Setting
-
Practice this skill by sitting in front of the corner of two walls. Take a ball, set it on one wall and as soon as you catch it, set it to the other wall. This will help you learn how to set the ball to a certain direction and also makes your core stronger since you are crunched up with your feet against the wall.
