Designing Volleyball Uniform

Volleyball is a sport played all over the world by males and females of all ages and at various levels. But if there's one thing they all have in common, it's that they wear uniforms that represent the team for which they play. Uniforms vary in color, design and fabric, and just as in any sport, volleyball teams can sometimes be loved or loathed by what they wear.
  1. Colors

    • The first step in uniform design is knowing what colors your team will wear. If you are representing a school, your decision has likely already been made for you. In that instance, all you need to do is decide how you want to present the colors on both home (white) and away (dark) jerseys.

    Cut

    • After deciding on the uniform's colors, you will need to pick a style or "cut" of the jersey. Volleyball jerseys have pretty much become strictly sleeveless, a cut considered to be more comfortable during play (much like basketball). Still, some come with collars, some with stripes along the sides, and some with both.

    Fabric

    • Besides the many different looks to a jersey, there are also a few different feels--with the most popular fabrics being polyester and cotton. Polyester jerseys typically consist of "mesh," which have little holes within a shirt that are in place to help volleyball players stay cool.

    Typeface

    • Most volleyball uniform design websites permit users to customize the style of the team name and numbers on the front of the jersey, as well as a player's last name on the back. Extra words on a uniform will cost more. Also, most give you the ability to place the team or school logo on the jersey.

    Location

    • Another way to fit uniform design to your liking is to choose the placement of numbers and lettering. Team names or nicknames can be placed above or below numbers, as can logos. This goes for both the front and the back of the jersey.

    Shorts

    • Volleyball shorts typically come in three different cuts for women--standard cut spandex, low-rise spandex or standard spandex/cotton. Men typically wear baggier and longer shorts made of a cotton and polyester mix, similar to those worn in men's basketball. Many sites give you the option of adding either single or double stripes to the sides of the shorts.

    Price

    • There are numerous websites available for uniform design, and it is a good idea to research prices. Prices vary by site on each step of uniform design, and a little investigating could go a long way in cutting costs.
