Where to Go When Rotating in Volleyball
The traditional rules of indoor volleyball require six players, per team, on the court during play. The court position that each player takes is determined by her coach. During play, each player will rotate to each court position at some point during a match. Your court position differs from your play position. Your court position is your location on the court at the start of a serve. Your play position is your role on the court; setter, outside hitter, weakside hitter, middle hitter or libero.

1
Take your initial court position, as designated by your coach.
-
2
Remain in the same pre-serve court position until your side, or the opposing side, gains possession of the serve from the other team.
-
3
Rotate clockwise by one position when your team next serves. For example, the previous server, who was in the right-back position, now moves one position to her left.
-
4
Rotate to your strongest position on the court after the ball has been served and for the length of each play. This is different than the rotation at the start of a serve, as all players are free to move to her best position, as designated by your coach.
