Offshore Special Regulations

The International Sailing Federation (ISAF) is a sailing organizational body consisting of 128 member states around the world. It provides regulations for offshore racing that are followed in all of its competitions.
  1. Size

    • Yachts of less than 24 meters are subject to a number of regulations. They must have been built in accordance with the specifications of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and have a building plan certification from a "notified body recognized by the ISAF." These rules apply only to yachts built after January 2010.

    Alternate Size Rule

    • Yachts over 24 meters have slightly different rules. Their build specification must meet ISAF requirements. The certification rule and the validation date of the rule are the same as for smaller craft.

    Second Generator

    • Having a second electrical generator on a boat is not compulsory. However, if a second generator is on board, it must be installed permanently and safely. For example, it must have permanent cooling and fuel supply systems.
