Snorkeling in the Sebastian Inlet, Florida

Sebastian Inlet is located in Brevard County, Florida, along state road A1A about midway between the towns of Melbourne and Vero Beach. It has a state park, which is a popular snorkeling site. This is done along the rock reefs and in the lagoon of the inlet.
  1. Park Fees

    • Sebastian Inlet is a state park and there is an entrance fee starting at $1 as of 2010.

    Snorkel Spots

    • The shallow water lagoon, which is good for beginners, has clear water. Drifting along the jetty of the inlet is for intermediate snorkelers. For advanced snorkelers, there is the Monster Hole, where it is possible to free dive down to 30 feet.

    Precautions

    • Currents are prevalent when snorkeling along the rock jetties of the inlet, and surfers and waves usually are obstacles when snorkeling the Monster Hole.

    Renting Equipment

    • Although there is one dive shop in Sebastian, and another in Palm Bay, as of 2010, there are few places to rent snorkel gear, so it is advised to bring your own.

    Rules

    • All divers and snorkelers must be within 100 feet of a dive flag. Spear fishing is prohibited.
