Diving
-
Cozumel's diving is mostly focused on the reefs and coral formations that are situated to the south of San Miguel on the west coast; much of the area is protected as a national park. The reefs are easily accessible with coral plateaus starting in less than 30 feet of water. The colors and array of marine life, which can include whale sharks, the biggest fish in the ocean, has been remarked upon by divers as some of the best diving on the planet. The average water temperature is between 75 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter to 85 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer. For this, a 3 mm or thicker wetsuit is advised.
Hotel and Dive Packages
-
Many hotels and dive operators in the area offer all-inclusive packages with a number of nights in a hotel, coupled with corresponding days diving--for example, five nights in a hotel with four days diving included. For those not worried about the accommodation, dive centers also put together multiple-day diving packages or multiple-course packages for those looking to enhance their diving certifications. For novice divers looking to try diving or do an open-water diving course, there are packages available. There are many deals to choose from, so look carefully at what you will receive as part of the package. It all depends on your budget and what you are looking for.
