Your wrestling diet gets you to weight you desire to wrestle at. It will keep your body at its best when you walk on the mat. A poor diet makes you sluggish, tired or sick.In the old days of wrestling, losing many pounds to get to your weight was acceptable. Now it is unacceptable to lose so much weight. Many states require a hydration test and limit the amount of fat on the body compared to your body's water content. The smart move is to weight train and follow a great diet.
Diet Don'ts

Stopping eating is not the way to diet for wrestling. That practice puts unnecessary stress on your body. When you don't eat for a day or two, your metabolism slows down as your body it tries to conserve energy. When you do eat your body's metabolism speeds up. This is the yo-yo effect in dieting Also when you starve yourself, your body consumes muscle protein.
Fat in your diet is not your enemy so don't stop eating it. You should, however, cut back on trans-fats that are harder for the body to metabolize.
Don't try to lose weight quickley. Rapid weight loss will cause you to lose muscle tissue.
Diet Do's

Your wrestling diet should consist of 10 percent of calories from fat. Eat slower so that your body will get more of a sense of fullness as it registers your food intake. You should have a plan before you eat and be conscious about the food you are putting in your body. Remember if you put garbage in your body you will get garbage out.
You should also be focused on your metabolism, as well. You want your metabolism high so that you are constantly burning calories. You should eat smaller meals and eat about every four hours. Take a multivitamin each day.
