Practice a Drill Team Chevron Maneuver
-
1
Review the basics of the Chevron maneuver at Web sites like the Oregon High School Equestrian Teams website (see Resources below). This site has a handy guidebook which offers illustrations of the Chevron maneuver that you can print out and share with your drill team during practice. These diagrams may be used for drills with or without horses.
-
2
Separate your drill team into two separate factions. You may want to have them separate in a fancy, dance-inspired manner, such having every other person break away from the group, until two distinct formations are created.
-
3
Make sure there are an equal number of members on each team. Ideally, each team should have an even number of people, but you should also be sure both teams have the same number of participants in order to execute the Chevron maneuver properly.
-
4
Designate two individuals from each team to lead the maneuver. These individuals should step ahead of their teammates to form the inner point of the "V."
-
5
Ask the rest of the team to make up the rest of the "V" behind the individuals designated as the inner point. You can space the team members as far apart as you would like, since there are no concrete rules concerning the matter.
-
6
Have the groups line up so they are almost touching at their outer points. This means the outer points of the "V" each team makes should be close to touching.
-
7
Face each member of the sides of the "V" outward. For proper formation, they should be looking at the audience, not at each other.
-
8
Break out of the Chevron maneuver by having team members roll out of formation in the directions they are facing. The two individuals who make up the inner point of the "V" should roll in opposite directions.
